Dr. Caitlyn Fields

Veterinarian

Hello, I'm Dr. Caitlyn Fields, and I am one of the veterinarians at Heartland Veterinary Hospital. I grew up in Mount Olive, Illinois, and knew from a young age that I wanted to be a veterinarian and care for animals. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Missouri–St. Louis in 2021, then continued on to the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine. During my undergraduate years, I worked as a veterinary assistant and volunteered at a wildlife rescue, with these experiences only further fueling my passion for animal care.

While in veterinary school, I focused on small animal medicine and pursued elective rotations in dermatology, cardiology, and other small animal specialties. I spent six weeks with the Heartland team during my clinical training and knew it was the right place for me. I’m proud to now be part of a team that shares my values and commitment to both pets and their people.

Why I Chose This Profession

Like many in this field, I've wanted to be a veterinarian for as long as I can remember. Over time, that childhood dream grew into a real passion, not just for helping animals but for supporting the people who love them. I've experienced firsthand how powerful the bond between pets and their families can be, especially during difficult times. Caring for animals feels like the best way I can give back for the love and support they give us every day.

Favorite Part of My Job

Educating and empowering people in their pets' care is one of the most rewarding parts of my job. I love working alongside pet owners to find the best solutions for their pets and sharing my knowledge of veterinary medicine and care with them every step of the way. I always encourage questions and value the collaboration I get to experience with so many of our clients. In today's world, where information is so readily available, I want my clients to feel seen, heard, and comfortable bringing their concerns and ideas to the table.

Personal Hobbies and Interests

Outside of the clinic, I enjoy cooking, reading, and spending time with my family. My two fur children, Onyx, a black Lab, and Mosi, my orange cat, also keep me busy outside of my work and hobbies
